It
is hard to believe that it is the holiday season already! With so
many great car events this year, it has really raced by. Many thanks
to John Zender for his great work on our track days! Our October track
day was another great success! We will have even more next year, it looks
like. We had a fun October meeting at Kiyoshi's with the highlight
being the nominations of next years' officers. Well, maybe the highlight
was playing his new Play Station car video games! In any case, you
should plan on attending the upcoming November meeting to defend your honor!
Keep posted here and on the web site for details. Also, keep posted
for new developments with a newly formed Lotus Club in Southern California
and some joint ventures we are planning.
Speaking of holidays, in
about one month we have the annual GGLC holiday party. This year
the party is happening on Saturday, December 15 at 7:00 PM. We have
a wonderful mid-peninsula location so it is centrally located, in Menlo
Park. The restaurant is called Acorn, and they serve Mediterranean
food at 1906 El Camino in Menlo Park. The price per person is $32.00,
and that includes salad, main course, and dessert, and also the tip.
We will have the usual choice of beef, chicken, or veggie main courses.
We will post more details on the web site, but you can RSVP by sending
me a check made out to GGLC after you read the additional details we post
on the web site. Please send to Victor Holtorf, PO Box 4264,
Burlingame, CA 94011. Please send $32.00 times the number in your
party and specify what type of main course you prefer. See you at
the Meeting !

I
know someone will ask, "What was Kiyoshi doing in Indianapolis?" And, I
would answer, "On my way to Kokomo to see a customer." Well, it's
true!!!
But,
ya see, getting to Kokomo, Indiana from the Bay Area is not a simple feat
of getting on a plane and arriving there. Kokomo is about 1 and half hours
drive north of Indianapolis. And getting to a 1pm meeting in Kokomo can't
be done if one leaves the same morning as the appointment. I've done 2pm
meetings in Dallas, that means getting on a plane at 6:30 am and arriving
at DFW at 12:30pm (CST). But, getting to Kokomo… means flying out the prior
afternoon, doing a plane change in Chicago and arriving in Indianapolis
late night.
So,
the story goes, what does one do in the morning? I could have driven to
Kokomo and find somewhere to hang out from 10am to 1pm. Or, I could have
stayed my hotel room until 11am - doing phone calls and email, etc. Or,
I could go to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway… Hmmm… what would you do?
Yeah, right I stayed in my hotel room!?! NOT!!!!
In
20 days the F1 circus would be showing up for the USGP. I was a bit early,
but still I absorb the Indiana air. What so amazing about Indy is that
homes and residences now surround it. I can't imagine this happening in
the Bay Area without all the homeowners fussing about noise and closing
down the facility. Just look at the pressure on our airports - San Francisco,
San Jose and Reid-Hillview in San Jose. The airports were there LONG before
